The herald welcomes the guests in medieval tongue, performs the ordeal of poison testing at every course, pronounces the table rules, and recruits volunteers between the courses for assistance.

The peak of the feast is the accolade for one of the guests, if he/she succeeds in the last and most important test. If he/she doesn't succeed the pillory will be waiting or they can pay their way to freedom or be freed by magnificent kisses arranged by the herald himself.
